The Arts Club Theatre Company's production of Casey and Diana by Nick Green is coming to the historic Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage from April 24 to May 25.
Inspired by true events, Casey and Diana is set in 1991, the peak of the AIDS crisis, at Toronto's Casey House, Canada's first freestanding AIDS hospice. Casey House has just received uplifting news: Diana, Princess of Wales, will be making a historic visit. Experience this poignant portrayal of the residents and caregivers as they prepare for the Princess's visit, highlighting how community, joy, and compassion can persist, even in the face of an overwhelming pandemic.
Award-winning Canadian playwright Nick Green is renowned for his insightful and thought-provoking works, including the lauded Body Politic. Casey and Diana continues his exploration of LGBTQ+ history and the human condition. In 2024, Casey and Diana was the winner of Best New Canadian Play at the Toronto Theatre Critics' Awards and had a sold-out run at the Stratford Festival, where it was directed by Andrew Kushnir. Kushnir, who is known for his innovative approach to verbatim theatre and social issues, will also helm the Arts Club's production.
"As humans—and as audiences—we are desperate to feel, to be moved, to find solace, to be thrilled into thought, action, and provocation," said Ashlie Corcoran, Arts Club's Artistic Director. "That is what Casey and Diana offers: the ability to experience longing, sorrow, and hope for fictional characters. The theatre provides a safe place where theatrical devices and visual imagery unlock our deepest emotions."
