Step into a world of pure imagination with CTORA's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, October 11–27, 2024 at the Norman Rothstein Theatre in Vancouver
This October, CTORA invites you to step inside the whimsical and fantastical world of Willy Wonka's factory with their upcoming production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, playing from October 11 to 27, 2024, at the Norman & Annette Rothstein Theatre.
Led by the young dreamer Charlie Bucket and four other lucky golden ticket winners, audiences will embark on a journey through Wonka's world of pure imagination. Expect chocolate waterfalls, mischievous Oompa-Loompas, and a cascade of surprises at every turn in this vibrant and visually stunning production. Whether you're a fan of Roald Dahl's original novel or the classic 1971 film, this performance promises to bring the magic of the story to life like never before.
According to Director Mark Carter, "Our production takes a lot of inspiration from the book and its original illustrations. This relatively new musical beautifully blends the familiar story and classic songs like 'Candy Man' and 'Pure Imagination' with fresh, clever musical numbers. Whether you're experiencing the story for the first time or revisiting an old friend, there's something for everyone in this production."
Enhancing the magical experience is a live 8-piece orchestra featuring some of Vancouver's finest musicians, led by Musical Director Jeremy Hoffman on keyboard and Assistant Musical Director Monica Sumulong Dumas on bass guitar. The ensemble also includes guitarist Christian Richardson, drummer Tyler Murray, violinist Kevin McDonnell, trumpeter Justin Kury, keyboardist Livia Cohen, and reed musician Jennifer Innanen, each bringing their unique talents to this immersive musical journey.
CTORA Productions is known for its commitment to excellence in family-friendly theatre, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is no exception. With direction by Mark Carter, choreography by Ken Overbey, and music direction by Jeremy Hoffman, the production features a breathtaking score by Marc Shaiman, with lyrics by Shaiman and Scott Wittman. Audiences can also look forward to beloved songs from the 1971 film, including 'Candy Man,' 'I've Got a Golden Ticket,' 'Oompa Loompa Song,' and 'Pure Imagination.'
