Flowers Artists' Collective is a Vancouver-based theatre company, presenting the world premiere production ofFlowers of the Rarest.
Set in a magdalene laundry, Ireland 1923, during the closing days of the civil war. This evocative new play is centered around the lives of five women imprisoned there. When the conflict finally breaches the laundry walls, the rigidity of their harsh, cloistered existence is shaken, awakening hopes of freedom.

Institutional abuse has left its mark on countries all over the world. In Canada we have not only the revealed history and horror of the residential schools, but also mother and baby homes, where more than 300,000 unwed mothers were forced to give up their children.

The horror and cruelty of the Magdalene laundry system in Ireland first came to public attention in the early 1990's. It was those horrifying revelations that laid the seeds from which this play emerges some 30 years later.
