The Metro Theatre proudly brings The Play That Goes Wrong to their stage. This is the first time The Play That Goes Wrong has been performed in Vancouver, BC! Written by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields of Mischief Theatre Company, since its debut the show has become a global phenomenon, been performed in over 35 countries across six continents, and won multiple awards including the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy and a Tony for Best Scenic Design. Full of laughter, disaster and physical humour, this is a play for the whole family! The Play That Goes Wrong will run from September 14 to October 5, 2024. An exclusively discounted preview performance will be held on Friday, September 13.

Directed by Mark Carter and Set Design by Glenn MacDonald, the talented cast includes Sade Stewart, Juan Preciado, Garth Phillips, Andrew Wade, Rob Fawcett, Sean Finnerty, Diego Arciniega, and Jessica O'Gorman. This laugh-out-loud comedy revolves around the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society, as they battle against worsening circumstances to make it through to their final curtain call for their production of Murder at Haversham Manor. With forgetful actors, mishaps and failing props, things are about to go from bad to worse…

Metro Theatre’s Production: Under the experienced direction of Mark Carter, The Play That Goes Wrong is set to delight audiences with its physical comedy, colourful characters and witty dialogue. Having watched the original West End production years ago, Mark Carter immediately added this play to his bucket list. “I don’t think I have ever laughed so hard, and ‘the play within a play’ scenario has never been written better,” he stated. “What I loved was with all the chaos that ensues, they still maintain the adage ‘the show must go on’ with boundless optimism.” The physicality of the show is carefully rehearsed and blocked. “It always is amazing to me how much work and effort goes into any show, this one is no different, although it is a lot more challenging than other shows as it takes a lot to make sure everything is going right for it to go wrong so badly.” The PlayThat Goes Wrong is the West End’s longest-running comedy for a reason!

Metro Theatre: A Legacy of Excellence: Celebrating over 60 years as a Vancouver staple, Metro Theatre has been a developing ground for actors, technical personnel, designers, and all types of theatre professionals. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Metro Theatre remains committed to uniting the community through live theatre. Our Back to the Future season centres around the spirit of regeneration and revitalisation — looking back to look ahead. Metro theatre strives to rekindle the magic of the stage, offering audiences an opportunity to connect with the community, rediscover the charm of theatre, and escape in staged performances.

Welcoming New Faces: Metro Theatre is thrilled to introduce Rose Marel, the new Marketing Manager, and May Goddard, the new Technical Director, to its dynamic team. Additional new faces include Starlynn Chen, an emerging costume and set designer whose previous credits include productions with Bard on the Beach and Arts Club.
