Metro Theatre is set to terrify audiences with its second show of the Season, The Woman in Black, running from October 12 to November 2, 2024, and previewing October 11.
The Metro Theatre proudly presents Canadian theatre legend Bernard Cuffling’s acclaimed production of The Woman in Black, based on the book by Dame Susan Hill, and adapted for the stage by Stephen Mallatratt.
Coming to the Metro stage October 12 to November 2, audiences can catch the production just in time for Halloween – if they dare! This terrifying production is London’s West End’s second longest running non-musical in history. Since 1987, The Woman in Black has captivated audiences all over the world. Cuffling’s brilliant production was first mounted in 2022 at the Jericho Arts Centre. It is being remounted down to the last creak and moan, and it is set to terrify Metro audiences INCLUDING Halloween evening October 31!
The story follows ageing solicitor Arthur Kipps (Bernard Cuffling), who engages a young actor (Daniel Merlo) to bring his eerie experiences at Eel Marsh Manor to life. Neither man expects the unsettling events that soon unfold
Driven by only three characters, The Woman in Black is more than a story, it is an experience. An experience that will grip audience members, and make them question what is real and what is not. BC Entertainment Hall of Famer Bernard Cuffling not only plays Arthur Kipps, but is also the play’s critically acclaimed director. With set design by theatre legend Glenn MacDonald and lighting design by award-winner Brad Trenaman, it is a beautiful show with a truly haunted story.
“I love this piece,” Cuffling told Shawn Conner in 2023. As an actor and director, he knows how to create an amazing production, having performed and directed all across Canada for over forty years. “We intend to scare the bejesus out of the audience. But in a nice way. And people love that, they love those thrills.”
First opened as a theatre in 1965, Metro Theatre is one of the oldest theatres in Vancouver. And producer Bill Allman is no stranger to both the theatre and to paranormal experiences. He feels that this superb production at Metro Theatre may very well conjure real ghosts. Metro Theatre recently allowed paranormal investigators Helter Spectre to conduct an in-depth investigation into any ghostly activity that might be present within the theatre. The results will be presented during the run of the show. Be prepared, the lines between reality and theatricality could get blurred and this production may have you screaming!
