Imagine a world where a stone can become a balloon!

Playful exploration of opposites for little ones guaranteed to excite and ignite their imaginations

Presentation House Theatre (PHT) takes flight this fall season with the English-language world premiere of Heavy and Light. In this international co-production with Germany's theatre wrede+, playful exploration of opposites for little ones guarantees to excite and ignite their imaginations.

Developed and originally produced in Germany by theater wrede+'s Marga Koop and Winfried Wrede, along with PHT's Artistic Director Kim Selody, Heavy and Light follows quirky characters, He and She, an adventurous pair learning all about what it means to explore together. With themes surrounding imagination, transformation, compassion and understanding, this show touches on both the science behind what makes one thing heavy and something else light as well as the emotions and meanings behind those words.

Affectionately referred to as "absurdist theatre for children" by director Kim Selody, this show explores how different personalities play together. In Heavy and Light, He and She are telling a story together, but they don't always agree on how the story should be told.

Through interactive play with rocks and balloons, the pair ventures on a journey to discover if a stone ever wonders what it’s like to fly or where do balloons go if they fly away.

"It's fun and it's challenging," Victor Mariano, actor (He in Heavy and Light), shares his favourite thing about performing for young audiences: "what I love is that the work is never done. It's scary, but it's also really thrilling."

Written by Marga Koop and Winfried Wrede, Heavy and Light is directed by Kim Selody and performed by Victor Mariano and AnaïsPellin.

Heavy and Light is on at Presentation House Theatre from October 5 – 15, 2023. Show times vary depending on dates. Tickets are on sale at phtheatre.org/box-office/ or 604-990-3474. For more information and show details, please visit www.phtheatre.org/
