Canada, 1915. This play centres around the true story of the first woman who was sentenced to hang in Alberta for a crime that, when a similar one was committed by a man, was seen as "defending the decency of his home.” A frank and scrutinizing look at marriage, manners, money and murder ... and sisterhood.
Thy Neighbour's Wife is written by Canadian indigenous award-winning playwright Tara Beagan. It stars Rebecca Erin Curtis, Natalie Gifford, Alexis Hope and Cyril Redillas. It is directed by Melissa Oei, mentored by Tamara McCarthy, with technical direction by Michael Methot, Intimacy direction by Lisa Goebel, movement coaching by Sylvie LaRivière, set design by Jane Li, lighting design by Christian Ching, costume design by Claire Turner, sound design by Corina Akeson, properties by Crystal Luo, with stage management by Isabella Woolston, and is produced by Joan Bryans.
Thy Neighbour's Wife runs at the Jericho Arts Centre from Jan. 20-Feb. 12, Thursday to Saturday at 8 pm, Sunday at 2 pm. Viewing on-line available from Jan 21. Talkbacks: Thursday Jan. 26 and Sunday Jan. 29.
