A Recipe Audiences Can't Resist:
Secret Ingredients Sells Out Performance Run at Gateway Theatre

Richmond artist Keely Rois O'Brien brings her acclaimed theatrical cake-tasting home October 14 to 17

Audiences have embraced the return of Richmond-based artist Keely Rois O'Brien to their local stage. Secret Ingredients, presented by Gateway Theatre from October 14 to 17, has sold out its performance run. With a month remaining before opening, Richmond residents appear eager to take a bite from cakes that are decorated with the difficult-to-express messages in this intimate theatrical experience.

"We are thrilled by the response to Secret Ingredients," says Gateway Theatre Executive Artistic Director Barbara Tomasic. "This is an intimate, inventive show by a Richmond artist that asks audiences to experience theatre differently. Seeing this level of enthusiasm before we have even opened is incredibly encouraging. It tells us there is a real appetite for surprising work that brings people together and creates meaningful connections."

Created and performed by O'Brien, Secret Ingredients invites people to submit messages they find too difficult to communicate directly. Selected messages are transformed into cakes and delivered to their intended recipients, with the resulting stories woven into the live performance. Audience members gather around communal tables to hear those stories — and taste the cakes — creating a theatrical experience built around curiosity, vulnerability, humour and human connection.

Previous audiences have called the production "wildly creative and tender-hearted" and "one of the most unexpectedly funny and charming shows I've seen."

Secret Ingredients runs October 14–17 at Gateway Theatre, 6500 Gilbert Road, in Studio B. The show is currently sold out, but audiences can join the online waitlist at https://www.gatewaytheatre.com/secret-ingredients
