UBC Theatre and Film Presents Dracula: A Feminist Revenge Fantasy, Really
by Kate Hamill -- Based loosely on the novel by Bram Stoker

UBC Theatre and Film's 2026/2027 season opens with Dracula: A Feminist Revenge Fantasy, Really, Kate Hamill's witty and blood-soaked reimagining of Bram Stoker's iconic novel. Directed by Moya O'Connell and featuring the creative talents of BFA and MFA students, the production runs November 18–December 5 at the Frederic Wood Theatre.

When the charismatic Count Dracula arrives in England and begins preying on the locals, Mina Harker—a young wife and expectant mother—and the defiant Dr. Van Helsing fight back. Blending Gothic horror with sharp humour, playwright Kate Hamill transforms the classic vampire tale into a thrilling story of rebellion and revenge.

Director Moya O'Connell describes her approach to the script and rehearsal process as "riotous fun." She says, "You won't find any fragile damsels in distress heaving and shuddering their way through this high-velocity feminist reframing of Dracula. Warning: There will be blood."
